The mysterious Transfiguration is one of the more unusual events in Jesus’ astonishingly unusual ministry. Its purposes and message were and are crucial for all His followers.

As we resume our Mark series, Jesus turns His face toward Jerusalem and all that awaits Him there. As He does, his message for disciples is plain and sobering: following Him means we too must walk the Calvary Road.

If you are not content with the truth, you will resort to deception. How do you gain this contentment? How does wisdom remove your need for falsehood?

Your heart is the wellspring of life. What does this mean? How can we manage the core of our being with wisdom, in the Fear of the Lord?

These days, sex is everywhere! Yet, in some senses, that’s nothing new; the divinely-inspired text of Proverbs has much to say about this ever-present, and sometimes volatile topic.

We sometimes wish we had more practical wisdom in matters of money and wealth. Life’s complexities and apparent uncertainties can leave us uneasy about the future, at least in this world. Can Proverbs equip us for these basic, real-life issues?

Chuck Swindoll, quoting his mentor Howie Hendricks, used to warn of trafficking in unlived truth. Divine wisdom, rooted in the Fear of Yahweh, should influence all of life, including personal relationships.

Proverbs is structured around a framework of a kingly father’s wise advice to his princely son. What difference should it make when one generation passes along eternal truth, with practical application, to the next? What does this look like, in real life?

According to Proverbs: the fear of Yahweh is the beginning of wisdom. Solomon uses several “characters” to reveal various attitudes toward wisdom. Consider the four main examples; ask whether one or more might represent you.

This morning we begin our summer survey through Proverbs. It’s chock-full of wisdom, and who of us doesn’t need more of that?
